Walker

We are an ASD family. My 5yr old son suffers from Developmental delay, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and Oppositional Defiance Disorder. Our journey with LOH began a year ago. I reached out to Danielle and Tessa out of desperation. No service dog provider would help us due to my sons age and the ones that would, were at least 5 to 10 year wait before their waitlist even opened up again. LOH heard my pleas and our lives have been forever changed. My son was and still is a bolter. But now, his dog, Walker, keeps him engaged enough that bolting is rarely on his mind. He was also unable to self sooth/regulate. Thanks to Walker’s ability to provide DPT, our son’s escalations are less frequent and much shorter in length. He has also slept through the night since Walker joined us in September 2017 after 5 years of multiple sleep interruptions a night due to night terrors and sensory difficulties. We, as parents of a child with ASD, worry less, play more and feel more comfortable venturing out in public to do shopping as a family or attend large social events without fear of leaving due to meltdowns or losing our son. Watching and supporting our son’s newfound freedoms has been one of the biggest rewards we have received thanks to Walker. Our son has matured and learned to take responsibility for his dog and he loves him, unconditionally, an emotion very new to our son.
