Our Community

All of our puppies are rescues. We proudly work with rescues and the community to provide amazing dogs with great purpose and forever homes.

Our dogs are trained for one or more classification of assistance dog. Once both the family in need and the dog have been fully trained by our LOH staff the dogs are able to be of incredible service and companionship to the family or individual.

Below you can read some of our success stories.

Annika and Sherlock

By Our Community

Sherlock’s been my shining light of hope, without him I wouldn’t be doing any of the things I’m doing now. He’s given me the independence to leave the house, taking public transportation, and do public speaking. He always puts a smile on my face, wagging his tail all the time, flying on-top of my lap for deep pressure therapy, and jumping to alert me. He’s my happy little worker! I’m so thankful to have this amazing dog! ❤

Sunny & Billie

By Our Community

Billie has completely changed my life. I had to rely on everyone around me because I was too scared to leave the house on my own. I would get to the front door and immediately go into a panic. Now, with Billie’s help, I’m able to go out and do what I need to! I’m finally able to be independent and live my life. She has made living with PTSD and all the other things that come with it manageable. Deep pressure therapy is definitely her favourite task (and mine too!). She is such a goofy, loveable, loyal, and hard working companion. I am so grateful to have her by my side! – Sunny & Billie

Proud Mum

By Our Community

I am a mom to 4 kids on the autism spectrum. We had introduced a pet dog to our household and were astounded at the difference the pet made for one of our children in particular. We started pursuing getting a service dog for our daughter, but were met with hurdles and blocks. Then we met Tessa and Danielle at Leash of Hope. They truly gave us hope that a service dog, customized to our daughter’s needs, was not just a possibility, but would be a reality.

The journey was not without its bumps, but it has been so worth the outcome. Our daughter has gone from being fearful, anxious, and unwilling to engage with the world, to being so well-spoken, emotionally sensitive and wise, and willing to take on things we hadn’t even dreamed would be possible. She has developed socially, emotionally, and personally beyond our wildest dreams. She is truly a delight and blessing to all she engages and interacts with. The transformation we have seen in her as a result of her Leash of Hope service dog has been absolutely amazing.

Walker and his family

By Our Community

We are an ASD family. My 5yr old son suffers from Developmental delay, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and Oppositional Defiance Disorder.

Our journey with LOH began a year ago. I reached out to Danielle and Tessa out of desperation. No service dog provider would help us due to my sons age and the ones that would, were at least 5 to 10 year wait before their waitlist even opened up again. LOH heard my pleas and our lives have been forever changed.

My son was and still is a bolter. But now, his dog, Walker, keeps him engaged enough that bolting is rarely on his mind. He is also unable to self sooth/regulate. Thanks to Walker’s ability to provide DPT, our son’s escalations are less frequent and much shorter in length. He has also slept through the night since Walker joined us in September 2017 after 5 years of multiple sleep interruptions a night due to night terrors and sensory difficulties. We, as parents of a child with ASD, worry less, play more and feel more comfortable venturing out in public tondo shopping as a family or attend large social events without fear of leaving die to meltdowns or losing our son. Watching and supporting our son’s new found freedoms has been one of the biggest rewards received thanks to Walker. Our son has matured and learned to take responsibility for his dog and he loves him, unconditionally, an emotion very new to our son.

Walker has filled in a major piece that was missing from our family dynamic. We are very blessed and fortunate to have found LOH and look forward to what the future has in store for us, with Walker and our continue Autism service dog training

Puppy raiser Taija (since 2016)

By Our Community

My name is Taija and I was introduced to leash of hope two years ago through working as a care aide. I started by fostering a wonderful dog named Walker for over a year and am currently working with Veronica, the most lovable pup you could ever meet.
Walker is possibly the most trainable dog in history. I fell in love with him immediately! Everyone’s first reaction when I tell them I foster/co-train service dogs is “that must be so hard to give them away” and it’s tougher than you could even imagine, but knowing the difference you are making for someone else’s life makes it all worthwhile!

I started my journey with Veronica only two weeks after moving into an apartment all by myself. Training a puppy without immediate help has been a whole other challenge I have had to overcome. Veronica has such a gentle heart and is incredibly good at listening to her handler. She is patient and loyal and I know one day she will help someone do amazing things!
Leash of Hope has given me confidence as a dog handler and the opportunity to raise such beautiful puppies and watch them flourish.
